First Steps

Drumroll please...

I was playing on the computer, BB was playing on the XBOX, Marcus was in another room way after Isaiah's bed time, when I noticed an Isaiah crossing my path in front of me.  What?  I missed it - he just decided to walk!  So I got my camera ready & called Marcus in.  The results...  (I reserve the right to claim that these were his first steps, not the ones that I think I missed.)

Eleven Months

Today we met a girl that has a baby that was born in the same hour, on the same day of the same year as Isaiah.  We started our labors at the same time & pushed about the same amount of time.  What a crazy thing that our births were so similar yet so different (She gave birth in a hospital with pitocin & an epidural; I didn't).

We talked about our plans for their first birthdays.

Isaiah is turning a year old in one month.

And how is he doing, you ask?  Since I've missed almost an entire month of talking about my little one...

He's saying mommy all the time now.  And dada and papa and nana.  I don't know if the last two mean his grandparents, but he definitely knows when he's calling his mother.  Although I still think he also uses it to call for food.

About food, he is eating everything.  He pretty much hates baby food now, because he loves everything else.  Veggies, fruit, dessert, pork, beef, chicken, everything.  I try to order varied flavors for him to try so he develops a well rounded flavor preferences.  Tonight he ate his Nana's greens with smoked turkey & loved it.  He eats a lot of homemade tortillas, tamales, rice & beans because his babysitter's mother is cooking all the time.  It was really important to him tonight to try & feed himself.

He is doing really well pulling up & occasionally letting go for a good stand.  But no walking yet.

He is doing a ton of crawling & already loves climbing the stairs.  The hallway & kitchen in the Briggs house is tiled, and he's had a few falls, usually when he's tired & isn't 100% confident in his stand.  He is crying less & less when he falls.  He doesn't cry at all when he falls on the carpet.

But he has been crying lately just because.  For the past several weeks he's been sleeping less & being generally fussy at various times throughout the day.  And he's acting fussy when I drop off when I know he loves his babysitter.  I know because he smiles in anticipation when we're walking up to the house & laughs & smiles when he sees her.  But just cries when I let him go.

Here is a glimpse of his troubled soul.

He blew me a kiss this morning.  He gives high fives.  He claps a lot.  On his first Easter he crawled around, found eggs, & threw them in his basket.

Despite his somber moments, he's still mostly happy.  That's good, because I don't think I could survive without his smiles & laughs.

9.5 Months

All I can say is wow.  My little one is growing up.  Too fast of course.  Sometimes I feel like I'm having a conversation with him, and that is awesome.  I'm really enjoying this time in our lives.  He is too because he absolutely loves being around his Nana & Papa & cousins all of the time.  No matter where he turns, there is someone there that adores him.  (In addition to his mother).

He's doing this thing where he will mimic our saying "Hm?"  We will go back & forth, I will post a video of it soon.  He's babbling a lot.  Still the same baba, dada, gaga, meme but lots more of it.  Yesterday & today, apparently he said "meme" all day.  His new thing - saying bye!!  He will wave & say "Baba!"

At restaurants now, his favorite place to be is in his highchair.  He turns around as if to face his audience & surveys the room, stares at the other patrons until they engage him.  Then he waves & smiles & laughes.  What a performer.  The other night we were out on a Friday night.  Girls flocked to him all night.  Marcus told me to be careful leaving them alone.

He loves bath time now.  Because he can sit up & hit the bubbles & the water & play with toys.

He is eating almost everything these days.  All of a sudden it was time to move from fruit & veggies to everything else, and I was so not ready.  I mean I felt like I was just getting used to the veggie thing, and he hadn't even started fruits with me (His babysitter fed him some bites of fruit).  We are adjusting well though.  He loves everything we put in his mouth, especially if it's something we're eating.  He's eaten rice & beans, chicken, mac & cheese, mashed potatoes, turkey, whole wheat bread, strawberries & bananas, guacamole, & pears.  This weekend he had some Chicken Poblano soup from one of our restaurants.  It was so spicy that when Marcus got back to the table he rushed to stop me from letting him try it.  But I had already, and he loved it!  We also realized today that he loves black & green olives.

We put him in a swing for the first time a few weeks ago.  He was a little afraid at first, but now he loves it.

He is just so so happy all of the time.  Except at bedtime.  The smiles disappear when he can't play anymore & when mommy & daddy leave him alone in the room.  We are trying lots of different things to get him to go to sleep & keep him asleep, but that's a whole other post too.

He loves pulling up so much that he does it when he's half asleep.  He never trys to crawl; he only refines his pulling up & standing skills.  He's getting pretty good at it.

I just love him so much.  I am so lucky.

A Baby Dancing

He started dancing last night.  It was the most adorable thing, and I just would have killed myself if I didn't get it on video.  The kids & I were watching Glee, and when Gwyneth Paltrow started singing her first song, he started dancing.  And he did that every song after that.  I can't really describe how awesome it was, so without further ado...

Eight Months

Man, it's hard to get pictures of my baby every day during the work week.  We are rushing every morning to get to work.  Then at the end of the day, both Isaiah & I are exhausted, and pictures don't always get inspired that way.  I'll keep trying though.

He turned 8 months on the 26th.

Most days I am in awe of how cute he is.  And I can't believe he keeps getting cuter.  How do they do that?

I love to hear him talk the most.  He babbles with such a sweet voice, and I anxiously anticipate every "word."  Although after this past week, I think some his "words" might actually be legit.  He's been saying meh meh meh whenever he's hungry or upset.  He's either saying mama or milk.  I don't know, but it's pretty targeted, and every time he says it, it seems deliberate & clear.  Who knows though.  I don't care either way.  I just LOVE that he's talking/babbling/whatever.  Using his voice.  I can't wait until he starts signing back or talking more or singing along with me.

He's almost crawling.  He scoots & creeps like a gazelle & is doing the rocking motion on his hands & knees.

He sits up but doesn't do it often because he wants to be moving around.  He stayed sitting on a toy bike unassisted last week, and whenever we leave him sitting he stays.  It's just not his favorite position.  And he definitely isn't impressed by his ability to do it.  It was an unnoticed milestone for him.

Instead his favorite position is standing.  He's been pulling himself up to standing on us while we're lying on our backs on the floor.  He will do it over & over again.  And his favorite toy ever is this musical table he got from his aunty for Christmas.  He really is obsessed over it.  I've hidden it in the other room because I don't want him eyeing it every second of the day because I'm not so sure it's good he's standing that much.  And well it's a lot of work to watch him closely around it.

My fortress I made on the floor surrounded by a wall of pillows doesn't work anymore because he's figured out how to crawl over them.  And despite how many awesome toys are inside, he wants everything oustide the fortress.

His favorite toys are anything that isn't one.  My chapstick, remotes, my phone, cords, anything with paper, magazines, my computer, the wipe container, diapers, water bottles, anything electronic, more cords, anything that he can grab & put in his mouth.  He would choose these things any day over a toy.

He's eating carrots now.  These seem to be his least favorite so far.  Others have been yellow squash, rice cereal, oatmeal cereal, avocados, yogurt, eggs, & potatoes.  Next up - butternut squash.  Oh yeah, I need to go do that.  Right now.
